The Youth Innovation Fund (YIF) for Accelerated ATM+M Implementation towards MW 2063 is a flagship initiative of the Government of Malawi (GoM), spearheaded and implemented by the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and implemented through the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM). YIF is a catalytic financing and support mechanism designed to unlock the innovation potential of young Malawians, particularly in strategic sectors— Agriculture, Tourism, Mining, and Manufacturing (ATM+M).
The Youth Innovation Fund (YIF) will prioritize innovation within Malawi’s key productive sectors: Agriculture, Tourism, Mining, and Manufacturing. These sectors are central to the ATM+M Strategy within the Malawi 2063 First Ten-Year Implementation Plan.
In alignment with the agriculture sector, the YIF will support innovations that increase
agricultural productivity, sustainability, and value addition. This includes promoting
climate-smart agricultural practices, agri-tech solutions, and youth-led agribusiness
ventures that drive food security and rural development.
The Tourism sector presents significant potential for growth. The YIF will support innovations that enhance the tourism experience, focusing on eco-tourism, digital
tourism platforms, and youth-driven hospitality businesses that improve service delivery and attract sustainable tourism.
The YIF will focus on sustainable practices within the Mining sector, supporting innovative mining technologies, mining safety innovations, and youth-led
beneficiation projects that process raw minerals into value-added products, contributing to Malawi’s industrialization and resource management.
Aligned with the Manufacturing component, the YIF will invest in youth-driven manufacturing startups and innovative manufacturing processes that improve productivity and promote local content development. This includes fostering light manufacturing innovations, such as automation and sustainable practices, to increase competitiveness in global markets.
